VAMC Correct Campus Upgrades
The purpose of this project was to deliver sufficient water supply for the current and future expansion at the Sacramento VAMC while maintaining design standards for protection against Legionella Disease. The Sacramento VAMC is a 43-building campus covering approximately 617,659 square feet. This is an open hospital that is very congested and busy treating veterans of varying age and disability, therefore requiring special consideration while working on campus. GSE provided a full-time liaison to the VA patients and employees who facilitated pedestrian and motorized traffic, resulting in successful execution of work. GSE did all the water line switchovers during the night when water demand was at its lowest. GSE preplanned this work down to the most minor detail resulting in shutdowns that took merely minutes versus hours. This minimized impacts to the patients and VA employees. The project received national recognition by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and presented at the 2022 National Wastewater/Water DBIA convention in Orlando, Florida.
