Lower Elkhorn Basin Levee Setback, Pump Station
The Lower Elkhorn Basin Levee Setback Pump Station was crucial for improving public safety for approximately 780,000 people by providing a means to evacuate water from the Lower Elkhorn Basin to the Sacramento Bypass and ultimately to the Sacramento River. The pump station had to be available during the winter season prior to final connection to permanent power. To address this challenge, GSE worked closely with the owner, designer, and electrical subcontractor to create a temporary emergency action plan to operate the pump station off generator power in case of an emergency flood event. Upon completion, the pump station was designed to move 160 cubic feet of water per second, making it a critical asset for the Sacramento County Flood Control Agency’s goals. GSE successfully completed the project, contributing to improved public safety in the area.
