Land O Lakes PH Neutralization System & Truck Scales Facility
This design-build project constructed a 2.2 MGD pH neutralization system built to control the large pH range of the plant effluent, pH 2-13. This included a 25foot-deep epoxy coated cast-in-place wet well with dual 2000 gpm SST submersible pumps, which moved the effluent into two 200,000 gallon bolted steel equalization tanks and a post-EQ neutralization tank. Multiple new chemical dosing pumps supplied the acid/bases to neutralize the effluent before it entered the city sewer system. A carbon scrubber and FRP ducting removed and treat foul air from the covered wastewater tanks. The effluent was moved through all SST pipe above ground and fusion welded HDPE below ground. A fully containerized MMC room was set by crane and anchored on its own slab. The tie-in of the new wet well along with replacement of 400 feet of 24-inch influent line required a 24/7 bypass of the entire Land O Lakes plant effluent. We continuously monitored the bypass suction manhole with transducers, floats, and auto dialers to prevent overflows.
Concurrently with the pH neutralization system, GSE constructed a new truck scale system adjacent to the wastewater facility. Three new, 17-foot by 70-foot, Mettler Toledo at-grade truck scales were constructed to optimize inflow of dairy trucks. The job included a two-story CMU building, housing security, and the sampling laboratory. A pre-manufactured catwalk system, including access platforms to the tops of the dairy trucks, was built to quickly sample each dairy truck. A large metal structure with standing seem roof was included for weather protection The truck scale entrance and exit was finished with heavy traffic concrete paving for durability.
